What Are the New Seven Deadly IT Sins?
|
As reported in the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, the list of deadly sins has grown from seven to 14. In a story today at The Times Online, Bishop Gianfranco Girotti was quoted as saying that there are "new sins which have appeared on the horizon of humanity as a corollary of the unstoppable process of globalization." In other words, many of these new sins have greater social implications, where "old" sins such as gluttony and sloth (mostly) affected individuals. Some of the new sins have technology implications. For example, will the flames of hell be a business driver for green IT? Will the sin of being obscenely wealthy cause 23-year-old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg--possibly the youngest self-made billionaire in history, according to Forbes--to throttle back a bit? (You can get a list of all of the latest deadly sins at heraldsun.com.uk.) Last year, eWEEK published a list of the Seven Deadly IT Sins. I wonder if it's time to update that list, too? What do you think should be added? Please let me know. |
