How to Integrate an Apple iPhone with Windows Outlook
|
With everybody hung up about how cool the Apple iPhone is the one thing that probably blocks more companies from adopting it more than anything else is how to integrate with there existing systems. That's where a utility called the Missing Synch for iPhone from a company called Mark/Space comes in. It allows you to synchronize your SMS messages, calendar, notes and call log on the iPhone with Outlook 2003 or 2007 editions running on a Windows system. Given the fact there are probably a lot more people with Windows systems than Macintoshes, a utility that makes it easier for iPhones to live in a Windows world could be pretty handy. You can even view threaded SMS messages and search archived messages. And the utility also has a set of tools for helping migrate from Blackberry, Windows Mobile Palm and Symbian to the new iPhone. One thing that big companies like Apple tend to forget is that when it comes to moving to a new platform, there is a lot of inertia inside any company that pushes people to stay with what they have that is working reasonably well because the hidden costs associated with making the switch are too risky. Those hidden costs include how to get data from one platform to another and do that in a way that doesn't suck up too much time. But given the rising interest in the iPhone in a corporate computing space still dominated by Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices, the $39.95 price tag of the Missing Synch for iPhone is definitely low enough for just about anybody out there. So the next time somebody tells you that you can't have an iPhone because the company doesn't support those devices, just remember what they are really saying is it's too difficult to make the transition. And then take away that objection by pointing them towards Mark/Space. |
