6 Months to End of Support for Office 2000

Are you still using Office 2000? It's tempting, since you paid for it a million years ago and it does everything that most people need. But one very good reason is coming up to move on in your Office support: Six months from today, more than 10 years after it was initially released, Microsoft will end the Extended Support Period for Office 2000.

This means that all regular support, including security fixes, will end. This isn't a small problem: There have been plenty of malicious Office documents that take advantage of vulnerabilities in Office, and there have been plenty of vulnerabilities in Office 2000, often not present or less severe in later versions.

There is one exception to this change in support: Support for the Office 2000 Proofing Tools Standard Edition will continue until January 2010. This product wasn't released until January 2000, thus the later end-of-support date.

KTG :

Yikes. When life cycles of major programs are 10 years, or shorter for all intents and purposes support/service wise, consumers are going to need to be aware of the security risks of keeping this programs "past their prime".
