Registry Coalition Backs DNSSEC

Obviously inspired by my recent column calling for the signing of the root zone, a consortium of domain registries and industry experts has been formed to facilitate the adoption of DNSSEC.

The DNSSEC Industry Coalition includes prominent registries and registry operators PIR, Afilias, EDUCAUSE and, of course, VeriSign. The members work together "... to establish a consistent set of tools and applications, shared best practices, specifications and shared nomenclature."

Certainly, registries are important in the enabling of DNSSEC because they control the DNS for TLDs (top-level domains), and domains below them need that for full efficacy of the protocol. It's a little early to get specific about what they are going to do.
