You Snooze, You Win
After a long, rough night of food poisoning, I had to wonder if the news of iPhone and iPod Touch memory upgrades should be discounted as more ravings of a rarebit fiend. But no, they're real. Even an official Apple announcement. In addition to the $399 8GB iPhone, there's now a $499 16GB model. And the iPod Touch line gains a $499 32GB version, in addition to the $399 16GB and $299 8GB models. All seem to be available now, though I wonder if all stores will stock all models fully; at the initial iPhone launch, many stores sold out of the then-max 8GB model, leaving a lot of 4GB iPhones sitting around. Ever loving the underdog, I picked up a 4GB iPhone in the initial round. I figured that mostly I listen to podcasts, and swap out old ones for new once I've heard them. That strategy enabled me to live happily with Shuffles for years. But the iPhone -- well, you can take pictures and load pictures on it. And though I rarely go through the squint-watching process required for video viewing, if I ever want to carry one around, that impinges seriously on the storage. So, yes, I kind of wish I'd dug a bit deeper and got the more expensive model.
